Diocesan Update May 17th, 2017

149th Convention

Shine!
It's time to shine! The 149th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany is coming up on Friday, June 9th through Sunday, June 11th at Camp of the Woods in Speculator. Our theme this year is Shine!, based on Matthew 5:16. There are many exciting workshops to choose from to show you how to get your shine on! You can learn about shining by teaching children about Jesus, by using your spiritual gifts, by caring for those with dementia or those with addictions. You can learn how to shine through singing hymns in a unique way. You can learn to shine by bringing puppets into your ministry. You can even learn how to shine brighter with God's reflected glory. To check out all the ways you can learn how to shine (we've got quite a few), click here. Feeling a little glow begin? Polish that up to a brilliant shine - register here.

Calling All Volunteers!
We need your help at Convention - we can't do it without you! If you're willing to volunteer, make sure to check the box on your registration form (it's at the bottom of the form). If you've already registered but want to volunteer, you can still volunteer. Just click here.

The Diaper Drive Returns
The Albany Refugee Resettlement Ministry is holding its seventh annual Diaper Drive at Convention. All diapers donated will go directly to Burmese refugee families living in the cites of Albany and Rensselaer. Diaper sizes 3, 4, and 5 are needed. (The diaper bank has recently received a good supply of N, 1, & 2 sizes). All donations will be collected near the Convention Registration area in Purdy Center at Camp of the Woods throughout Convention. If you would rather give "dollars for diapers," just make a check out to St. David's Church and write "Diaper Ministry" in the memo line. All donations received will go towards buying diapers for families in need. Wondering why disposable diapers are used instead of cloth? Click here for an explanation. If you have other questions, contact Fr. James Brisbin by clicking here.

Convention Vendor/Exhibitor Sign Up
Do you want more people in the Diocese to know about your group or ministry? You can reach over 700 people by becoming a Convention Exhibitor. Camp of the Woods has done more remodeling to their facility, and the Exhibit Hall will be placed in a new building with greater visibility. If this sounds like something your group would like to do, you can sign up online by clicking here.

Beaver Cross Camp

Call for Scholarships!
Beaver Cross Camp is the Diocese's camp for children from kindergarten through senior in high school. Kids at Beaver Cross have a great time with summer activities while they grow in faith and love for our Lord Jesus. There are many children throughout our diocese who would love to have this experience, but their families don't have the resources to send them to Beaver Cross. We invite you to prayerfully consider sponsoring one (or more!) of these children to experience camp and grow in their faith and their love for the Lord Jesus. The cost for each child to come to overnight camp is $490 and for day camp it's $255/week. If you can't sponsor a child on your own, consider teaming up with members of your parish. Or make it a parish sponsorship. Or just give whatever you are led to give. You can donate online by clicking here, or you can send your check or money order, made payable to Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, with "Beaver Cross Camp Scholarship" in the memo line, to Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, 575 Burton Rd., Greenwich, NY 12834.
