Extra Opportunity

BBC Filming
The BBC will be at Trinity Church, 18 Trinity Place, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, on Thursday, August 3rd at approximately 6:00 p.m. to film a piece to be released on You Tube. The filming will cover the history of the Church presented by Martha Bachman and the Trinity Church Choir, along with selected members of other local church choirs, singing We Three Kings. The filming is taking place at Trinity because John Henry Hopkins Jr., who wrote the hymn, was rector of Trinity Church from 1872-1876. Trinity Church invites you to enjoy the experience with them. Entertainment Opportunities

Windsong Chamber Players
St. Mary's Church, 220 Lake Ave, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846 is hosting two chamber music concerts by the Windsong Chamber Players, a group comprised of members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Julliard School of Music, and the Detroit Symphony, among others, on Tuesday August 8th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday August 13th at 2:00 p.m. The concerts are free, but there is a suggested donation of $20 per adult and $10 per child to cover expenses. Come and hear a beautiful little church filled with equally beautiful music!

Marty Wendell in Concert
On Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 6:30 p.m., Grace Church, 34 Third Street, Waterford, NY 12188, will host Rockabilly Hall of Fame/Lifetime Achievement Award Winning Artist Marty Wendell. Tickets are $10 for individuals or $18 for a family (with children under 18) before the concert and $12 and $20 at the door. Refreshments will be served. Cathedral of All Saints

Spanish Mass
The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan Street, Albany, NY 12210 will host a Spanish Mass (or “Misa”) on Saturday, August 5, at 5:00 p.m. in the Cathedral’s Lady Chapel. This mass, held regularly on the first Saturday of each month, will be celebrated by native Spanish speaker the Rev. William Hinrichs. Following the mass, volunteer bilingual immigration attorneys will be available to speak to worshipers about immigration matters, political asylum, and other concerns especially important to the Capital Region's Spanish-speaking community. Haiti Benefit Concert
A multi-cultural team of performers and worship groups led by Wally Jones, Master of Ceremonies will perform a concert on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210 to support mission work in Haiti, specifically to build a school in the village of Pouly, Haiti. The concert is free, though a free will offering will be taken. Bible Symposium & Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham
The Bible Symposium for 2017 will be held on Saturday, October 14 at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210. The speaker this year is The Rev. Dr. Michael Cover, an Episcopal priest and Assistant Professor of Ancient Christianity and Judaism at Marquette University, and a frequent contributor to The Living Church. The title of Fr. Cover's presentation is Not as Orphans: Praying and Preaching with the Saints of Scripture. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. The presentation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. The cost for the day is $20. Coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch are included. Come and listen to a respected scholar help us understand the Scriptures!

Following the Bible Symposium, at 3:00 p.m., there will be an ecumenical celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. The celebration will be a service of prayer and healing. The Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham in England draws pilgrims from many different Christian traditions. It is a place of both physical and spiritual healing. This festival is an opportunity for Christians of all traditions to come together and celebrate the unity we share in Christ Jesus, and to experience healing of our own wounds, as well as wounds of division in the Body of Christ. This celebration is free. No registration is required. All are invited to attend the service, whether you attend the Bible Symposium or not.

Acolyte Festival
Mend your parish banners, polish up your processional crosses, and clean your thuribles! The Acolyte Festival is coming! The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210 will be the site of the Grand Procession - a colorful parade of all the acolytes participating - followed by a Eucharist service on Saturday, October 28th. All first-time participants will receive a medal and seasoned veterans will receive a pin. Save the date!

Parish Administrator (Part-time)
Due to the departure of their current administrator for graduate work, St. Paul's Church, 58 Third St. Troy, NY 12180, is in need of a part-time (15 hours/week) Parish Administrator to handle office management, property management, and communications. Part-time Parish Administrator
St. George's Church, 30 North Ferry St., Schenectady, New York 12305 needs a Parish Administrator to work 20 hours per week. The Parish Administrator assists the Rector, other staff, and Vestry members. This individual must be detail oriented, organized, energetic, dependable, computer literate, and able to handle confidential and sensitive information. Responsibilities include creating church bulletins and general office management support. This position supports the Rector directly and is often one of the first persons to engage the public on behalf of the church, along with being a key point of contact for parishioners seeking help and connection with the Rector, Vestry and staff. General office skills are required, previous office administrative experience and a sense of a call to Christian service, being committed to the church's mission and the Gospel is preferred. Healing Center at CtK

Healing Service Preacher - Rev. Anne Curtin
The Guest Preacher for the Service of Healing at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center on Tuesday, August 8th will be the Rev. Anne Curtin, Executive Director of Healing a Woman's Soul. You can read her full bio here. The Healing service includes inspirational music and praise, powerful testimonies about the healing power of Jesus Christ, and phenomenal teaching and preaching. At the end of the service, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available as well as personal ministry with a prayer team. Individual Prayer Sessions are also offered by appointment for those who would like to receive more intensive prayer ministry. The service begins at 10 a.m. in the Oratory Chapel. A buffet lunch is available for purchase ($11 including tax) in the dining room of the Welcome Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.

School for Healing Prayer - Refresher Training
The Center for Healing and Spiritual Formation is offering a School for Healing Prayer refresher training overnight Friday, August 18th through Saturday, August 19th. Some parts of each level of the School for Healing Prayer will be included. Levels 1 - 3 are a prerequisite for this class. For more information or to download an application, click here. Healing a Woman's Soul

Women's Retreat
Do you ever need encouragement? Are you constantly critiquing yourself for your mistakes? Do you look like you've got it all together, while inside your're a wreck? Then come to the Healing a Woman's Soul (HAWS) women's retreat entitled I'm OK and I'm on the way September 8th - 9th, where you will get help to heal from emotional abuse. The retreat is overnight Friday through Saturday after supper. The retreat will explore God's vision for healing the broken-hearted. The retreat will be held at the Dominican Retreat Center, 1945 Union St, Niskayuna, NY 12309. Light refreshments will be offered Friday night. An evening to benefit Healing a Woman's Soul (HAWS), entitled Anything Chocolate... will be hosted by St. Paul's Church, 21 Hackett Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 Saturday, October 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet, silent auction, the second annual Paula award for a volunteer helping victims of domestic violence, and an "Anything Chocolate..." Conference Opportunity

Diocesan Mission Conference
The 2017 Diocesan Mission Conference is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd at St. John's Church, 10 Church St, Essex, NY 12936. The theme for the Conference is Be the light. Let it shine. The day will include Missions reports and informative workshops that will discuss working within Mission teams, choosing a mission that is right for you, dealing with hidden prejudices, finding funding for missions, and building and maintaining a successful mission. The Missions Committee invites all parishes in the Diocese to consider giving a report on the mission work that is being done by their churches. If you live far from Essex, you can still participate! Accommodations can be arranged with St. John's parishioners for Friday and/or Saturday nights.


Women's Weekend
Are you a woman interested in deepening your faith - or do you know someone who is? The Albany Diocese Cursillo Secretariat is pleased to announce a Cursillo Women's weekend Friday, October 20th through Sunday, October 22nd at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. Cursillo is a lay ministry designed to help renew and deepen Christian commitment, and to help participants understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders. Leadership in Cursillo does not mean power over others, but rather influence on others; all of us need to be aware that we can exert a positive influence on those around us.
