Learning Opportunities

Tree of Life Seminars
St. Andrew's Church, 50 Sacandaga Rd, Scotia, NY 12302 is offering a six-week course in spiritual development entitled Prayer of the Heart: Deepening Our Relationship with God. Topics for the individual classes include Finding our Center, the Heart; Hearing God's Voice; Issues of Discernment; Blocks and Difficulties in Praying; and Growing in Love. The classes will be offered in three different sessions: Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. or Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.. St. Mary's Institute of Christian Studies
St. Mary's Institute of Christian Studies hosts Father Christopher Brown as he continues his series of teachings on the writings of St. Augustine of Hippo. The series begins on Tuesday, September 19th at St. Mary's Convent on the campus of Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, 575 Burton Rd., Greenwich, NY 12834. The topic for the first lecture is Augustine on Time, Eternity and Creation. The other teachings in the series will be on Tuesdays on October 17th, November 14th, and January 16th. The teachings will begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to come early to the Convent for tea at 3:30 p.m. and/or stay late for Vespers at 5:30 p.m. The suggested donation to the Sisters for each lecture is $10.

Bible Study Opportunity

Beth Moore

The study begins on Tuesday, September 19th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. and will continue for 11 weeks at St. Mary's Church, 220 Lake Ave, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846 in the parish hall. A workbook is available but not required to attend the Bible study. The cost of the workbook is $18 and can be ordered through Karen Love, or on your own. Caring Opportunity

Christmas at Sea
Do you like to knit or crochet? Then you are invited to participate in the Christmas at Sea program. This program is a ministry of the Seaman's Church Institute, an organization affiliated with the Episcopal Church that ministers to those who work in the maritime industry. Many of these individuals spend most of their time at sea, away from their families. The Christmas at Sea program provides gift boxes for sailors containing a scarf, neck warmer, socks or hat, knitted by volunteers. You can join in this rewarding and enjoyable ministry by knitting or crocheting items for the ministry and bringing the finished product(s) to St. Mary's Convent on the campus of Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, 575 Burton Road, Greenwich, NY 12834 for collection in late October. Cathedral of All Saints

Haiti Benefit Concert
A multi-cultural team of performers and worship groups led by Wally Jones, Master of Ceremonies will perform a concert on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210 to support mission work in Haiti, specifically to build a school in the village of Pouly, Haiti. The concert is free, though a free will offering will be taken. Bible Symposium & Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham
The Bible Symposium for 2017 will be held on Saturday, October 14 at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210. The speaker this year is The Rev. Dr. Michael Cover, an Episcopal priest and Assistant Professor of Ancient Christianity and Judaism at Marquette University, and a frequent contributor to The Living Church. The title of Fr. Cover's presentation is Not as Orphans: Praying and Preaching with the Saints of Scripture. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. The presentation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. The cost for the day is $20. Coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch are included. Come and listen to a respected scholar help us understand the Scriptures!

Following the Bible Symposium, at 3:00 p.m., there will be an ecumenical celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham. The celebration will be a service of prayer and healing. The Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham in England draws pilgrims from many different Christian traditions. It is a place of both physical and spiritual healing. This festival is an opportunity for Christians of all traditions to come together and celebrate the unity we share in Christ Jesus, and to experience healing of our own wounds, as well as wounds of division in the Body of Christ. This celebration is free. No registration is required. All are invited to attend the service, whether you attend the Bible Symposium or not.

Acolyte Festival
Mend your parish banners, polish up your processional crosses, and clean your thuribles! The Acolyte Festival is coming! The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210 will be the site of the Grand Procession - a colorful parade of all the acolytes participating - followed by a Eucharist service on Saturday, October 28th. All first-time participants will receive a medal and seasoned veterans will receive a pin. Save the date!

Cave Quest VBS Materials
Trinity Church, 1336 1st Ave, Watervliet, NY 12189 has materials for the Cave Quest VBS Program, including a set of wonderful props made by St. James, Lake George, NY. They would like to be able to pass these materials on to another parish. If you or your parish is interested in receiving these materials, please call Fr. Healing Service Preacher - Rev. Lynne Crimi
The Guest Preacher for the Service of Healing at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center on Tuesday, August 29th will be the Rev. Lynne Crimi, Deacon at Christ Church, Ballston Spa. You can read her full bio here. The Healing service includes inspirational music and praise, powerful testimonies about the healing power of Jesus Christ, and phenomenal teaching and preaching. At the end of the service, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available as well as personal ministry with a prayer team. Individual Prayer Sessions are also offered by appointment for those who would like to receive more intensive prayer ministry. The service begins at 10 a.m. in the Oratory Chapel. A buffet lunch is available for purchase ($11 including tax) in the dining room of the Welcome Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.

School of Healing Prayer©
Do you feel called to pray for people? Are you not sure where to start to answer that call? Learn the basics of healing prayer at the School of Healing Prayer© at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. The Center for Healing and Spiritual Formation is offering a School of Healing Prayer© Level 1 class, the two-weekend version, on the weekends of Saturday and Sunday, September 16th and 17th and 23rd and 24. Healing a Woman's Soul

Women's Retreat
Do you ever need encouragement? Are you constantly critiquing yourself for your mistakes? Do you look like you've got it all together, while inside your're a wreck? Then come to the Healing a Woman's Soul (HAWS) women's retreat entitled I'm OK and I'm on the way September 8th - 9th, where you will get help to heal from emotional abuse. The retreat is overnight Friday through Saturday after supper. The retreat will explore God's vision for healing the broken-hearted. The retreat will be held at the Dominican Retreat Center, 1945 Union St, Niskayuna, NY 12309. Light refreshments will be offered Friday night. An evening to benefit Healing a Woman's Soul (HAWS), entitled Anything Chocolate... will be hosted by St. Paul's Church, 21 Hackett Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 Saturday, October 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet, silent auction, the second annual Paula award for a volunteer helping victims of domestic violence, and an "Anything Chocolate..." Contest. "Anything Chocolate..." contest entries are due no later than October 21st at 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul's. Conference Opportunity

Diocesan Mission Conference
The 2017 Diocesan Mission Conference is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd at St. John's Church, 10 Church St, Essex, NY 12936. The theme for the Conference is Be the light. Let it shine. The day will include Missions reports and informative workshops that will discuss working within Mission teams, choosing a mission that is right for you, dealing with hidden prejudices, finding funding for missions, and building and maintaining a successful mission. The Missions Committee invites all parishes in the Diocese to consider giving a report on the mission work that is being done by their churches. If you live far from Essex, you can still participate! Accommodations can be arranged with St. John's parishioners for Friday and/or Saturday nights.


Women's Weekend
Are you a woman interested in deepening your faith - or do you know someone who is? The Albany Diocese Cursillo Secretariat is pleased to announce a Cursillo Women's weekend Friday, October 20th through Sunday, October 22nd at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. Cursillo is a lay ministry designed to help renew and deepen Christian commitment, and to help participants understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders. Leadership in Cursillo does not mean power over others, but rather influence on others; all of us need to be aware that we can exert a positive influence on those around us.
