Call to Convention

Bishop's Invitation to
Convention 2013

Passion For Jesus

Eastertide 2013

Dear Friends in Christ,

Everyone in the Diocese -- clergy and laity (Deputies to Convention and non-Deputies), adults, teens and children are invited to attend the 145th Annual Convention of the Diocese of Albany scheduled for Friday, June 7th thru Sunday June 9th, at Camp of the Woods Christian Family Resort and Conference Center in Speculator, New York. While there is an "official business" component of the Convention for the election of various diocesan officials and representatives, voting on the diocesan budget and other business matters, the Diocesan Convention is truly designed to be a family event with plenty to do for young and old alike. The many activities at Convention include daycare and Vacation Bible School for the younger kids, the Youth Rally for Junior to Senior High kids, Spirit-filled worship, beautiful music (traditional and contemporary), excellent preaching and teaching, a time for prayer and healing ministry, Christian fellowship with family and friends from around the Diocese and the wider Anglican Communion, entertainment and recreation, all in a beautiful Adirondack setting.

The focus of this year's Convention is "Passion for Jesus!" In an effort to help us grow ever stronger in our passion for the Lord, I have invited the following special guests to be with us: Bishop Justin Badi and his wife, Mama Joyce, from our sister Diocese of Maridi in South Sudan; Bishop Abraham Yel Nhial - one of the "Lost Boys" of Sudan and now the Bishop of Aweil in South Sudan; our dear friends Bishop Harold and Liz Miller, from our sister Diocese of Down and Dramore, Northern Ireland; and Mr. Whitney Kuniholm, a lay person from the Diocese of Pennsylvania and President of Scripture Union U.S.A. Everyone at Convention will have an opportunity to meet and hear our guest speakers as they share their "Passion for Jesus" with us during the Convention Plenary sessions, Special Forums and worship services.

For those who like to arrive early, registration at Camp of the Woods begins Friday at 10:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. The first Special Forum, led by Whitney Kuniholm, starts at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. We will begin serving dinner at 5:00 p.m. for those attending the Youth Rally, and 5:15 p.m. for everyone else. Evening Prayer is at 7 p.m. followed by the Bishop's Address and the official opening of the Convention at approximately 7:30 p.m. The first ballot of voting will take place Friday night before adjourning for the evening. The business session will resume at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and hopefully will be concluded by lunch. Three Plenary Sessions featuring our guest speakers will be intermixed throughout the weekend as well as the four Special Forums.

The Diocesan Convention is always one of the true highlights of the year. Please join us. In so doing, I pray you and your family will be richly blessed.

Faithfully in Christ,
