Evensong: Music Debut of an Ecumenical Children's Choir
A new ecumenical ministry for children in Coxsackie is about to make its debut on Sunday afternoon December 17th at 5pm. The Jubilate Choir will sing Advent and Christmas music in their first candlelight Evensong Service, a short form of sung evening prayer from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. They are a classical children's choir comprising 14 children between ages six and twelve led by Ann Carter-Cox. A seasonal English Tea reception will immediately follow in the Parish Hall.
Although the choir is based at Christ Church where Ann Carter-Cox is organist and choir leader, the children come from several congregations and had never sung together prior to September. The results of their work with Ann Carter-Cox are delightful. 'I didn't really know what to expect when we began,' Pastor Susan Baker-Borjeson from Christ Church Coxsackie told a parent. 'I knew by Ann's reputation for youth choir in Greenwich CT that children would respond to her; I knew she would set a high musical standard for them because she highly values the children and the ministry of music in their lives and is willing to donate her time to do this. But I didn't expect that children would come along as quickly and as powerfully as they have. Their sound is heavenly...sweet and bright. I am deeply touched by them.'
The Jubilate Choir will sing Evensong on the third Sunday of each month in their family congregations and wherever else they are invited to sing. Pastor Susan hopes the community will turn out and support them.
