Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Valentines Day provokes many reactions, most positive, but some sad. The one Heart we can always count on to be faithful to us is Jesus whose love never wavers and whose arm is never withdrawn. Long after the chocolates are gone, the love of the Lord remains.
Today was the 1st Day of Lent in old calendars (and still is in the Eastern churches).
Yesterday Bp Dave was at St Andrews, Albany and I too was in the capitol city at Grace and Holy Innocents. Both of us experienced a lovely liturgy to inaugurate the holy season of Lent.
Last week the funeral Mass for Josiah Garno at St Johns, Ogdensburg drew a beautiful array of brothers and sisters in the Lord. Friends from Clifton Park and the capital district, joined St Lawrence Deanery clergy and parishioners from St Johns. I was honored to be the homilist and to concelebrate with Fr Bill and Fr Ted. Lynne Curtis was deacon for the liturgy.
That afternoon Carol drove me to Syracuse and caught the suppertime flight to Pittsburgh and the next day led the Ash Wednesday Quiet Day at Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (where it is obvious that Sarah and Scott are held in very high esteem). Preached at Morning and Evening Prayer, celebrated & preached the Eucharist and led a service of healing and spent a few hours in the Reconciliation of penitents. Caught the late flight back to Syracuse. A very uplifting environment.
Saturday was the School for Apostolic Action, led by Fr Derik Roy. Used by some vestry leaders to strengthen local parish life and growth. Thanks to Deacon Laurie Garramone-Rohr for fostering this new initiative.
Tomorrow, Tues, Feb 15 is the first Diocesan Lenten Service of Healing, at 7pm at St Stephens Church, Delmar. This is a non-Eucharistic service, so that you are free to invite any friend, co-worker or neighbor to come and receive prayer for healing. Nigel Mumford will be the principal leader of the Service.
Volunteers welcome on Thursday, Feb 17, at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center to assist in stuffing some mailings. We begin with Lunch. Call ahead, 518-692-9550. Many hands make light work. A new well was drilled at the Chapel of Christ the King at the SLC increasing the pressure/output of water for that facility.
Church of Our Saviour, Lebanon Springs, is having a healing service on Feb 26 at 2:00 PM. Mother Carola vonWrangle will be officiating. Church of Our Saviour, Lebanon Springs State Route 22 New Lebanon, Telephone: (518) 794-8092
The Dr Francis and Judith MacNutt healing Conference, July 18-22 requires registration through their headquarters, Christian Healing Ministry in Jacksonville, FL. Telephone 904-765-4224.
Please continue to pray each day for Father Bill Love in Uganda and Deacon Patti Hanson-Foss and Isabel deTringo in the Sudan, along with the rest of the Team from Ireland. Pray also for the North County team heading out on the medical mission to the Dominican Republic.
SUGGESTED from an online reader: Now that Lent is here parishes should make sure that web-content is current and has been recently updated. When people are looking for service information make sure they get the most accurate information you can give them. people will be looking for opportunities for worship and special events.. It is disheartening to see so many sites [havent been] updated
This goes for signs and answering machines too.
LORD JESUS, in the midst of temptation we can turn to you, who have been more fully tempted than we: give us the grace to resist and to let each temptation become the occasion of spiritual muscle-building in the life of your kingdom. Amen.
In Christ,
+ Dan
