March 2nd, 2005
This is Bishop Dave doing the weekly Update, while the Herzog's enjoy their 40th Wedding Anniversary in romantic Roma! They will eventually go to England, where they will visit our seminarian at Oxford, Bruce Mason, and his family. They will then go to Scotland to take part in the Consecration of David Chillingworth as a Bishop in the Episcopal Church of Scotland. And finally, they will go to Down and Dromore, where +Dan will preach St Patrick's Day at Down Patrick! They return to us on Palm Sunday.
Meanwhile, we continue ministering here in the Diocese of Albany. I am sorry we had to cancel the Regional Healing Service in Malone last night. We were not sure when the Nor'easter was going to hit, so wanted to protect people by asking them not to come. We will reschedule in the spring.
In the past few weeks, I have made visitations to St. Andrew's, Albany (special visit to their Sunday School children was a highlight); St. Paul's, Greenwich (large turn out with a number of visitors - good singing); St. Paul's, Franklin (filled up the chapel of that old, beautiful building - enjoyed an old fashioned turkey dinner); and St. Paul's, Sydney (enthusiastic worship; good discussion after the service regarding current developments). This Sunday, I will visit Trinity, Rensselaerville.
Did you know that we have a Canonically Resident chaplain in Iraq? Chaplain Gary Howard from Johnstown has been in the combat zone for several months now, and is in the thick of it. Please email him with encouragement and assurance of prayers. Contact him through his email. It may be a few days before he can answer you, because he is out in the field a good bit. If you would like to send him a card or letter snail mail:
Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel) Gary W. Howard
CMATT 98th Division, 01F3
FOB Camp Caldwell, KMT B
APO, AE 09374
You can also write a note of encouragement to his wife, Sylvia, at:

You may be aware that the Anglican Primates met last week in Northern Ireland and issued a Communiqué to let us know what they did. I have written an article about it, and you can find the article on our website.
Bishop Dan has assigned the following future vocational deacons to parishes:
Lynne Crimi - Christ Church, Ballston Spa
Art Garno - St. John's, Ogdensburg
Kevin Jones - Trinity, Gloversville
Mike Logan - St. John's, Ogdensburg
Dawn Waite Skramstad - St. Mary's, Lake Luzerne
Howard Thompson - Christ Church, Morristown
Pending their interview with the Standing Committee next week, they will be ordained at Diocesan Convention in June.
We will also be ordaining five transitional deacons (going on to the Priesthood). Their assignments will be announced when they are arranged.
And finally, if you are attending the Easter Sonrise service and would like to stay for breakfast, please call the Spiritual Life Center so they have an idea of how much food to prepare. SLC phone number is (518) 692-9550.
Well, that's enough for this week. I'll do an Update next Tuesday.
Bp. Dave
