St Bartholomew, Apostle
August 25th, 2005
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last weekend Carol and I enjoyed the Summer Retreat sponsored by Christ Church, Morristown Celebrated the Eucharist, heard confessions and prayed at the Service of Healing. The retreat was led by the Rev'd Nigel Mumford. Brilliant. Over 60 retreatants. Sunday celebrated Mass in Morristown Wonderful to connect with so many dear friends.
Stepped in Utica on the way home for supper with the kids and brought grandson Daniel home for overnight. Monday a series of meetings. Last night supper at Fr Bill and Karen Love's with Bp Harold Miller family and Bp Dave Bena family. Much enjoyment.
The Deputies and Alternates to the 2006 General Convention met Wednesday at Christ the King SLC, along with both of us bishops. It's hard to believe that just 10 months from now that GenConv will have already adjourned! Fr Shaw Mudge is the chairman of the Albany deputation.

Wednesday was the feast of St Bartholomew the Apostle. In history it is the date marred by the massacre of the Huguenots in France. It is in marked contrast to the funeral yesterday of Brother Roger of the Taize Protestant Monastic Community in France (who was murdered during Vespers by an insane woman) which was a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Kasper. We can draw MUCH from the Collect of the Prayer Book:
ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your Word: Grant that your Church may love what he believed and preach what he taught. Amen
