Saint Andrew the Apostle
November 30th, 2005
Since Bishop Dan will be on a Working Sabbatical for the next month, I will do an Update once a week, to keep you all up on what's happening.
Not being sure when Bp. Dan was last able to update you, let me think back to
November 6:
Bp. Dan had a great Visitation at Trinity, Granville. Fr. Marc Rogers is doing a good job as supply priest.
I did a Visitation & Confirmations at Bethesda, Saratoga Spring. Both services were well attended. Good Liturgy and music!
That afternoon, I did a regional Confirmation at St. John's, Stockport, for the Hudson Valley Deanery. I rolled in about five minutes before the service started - had some worried priests there for a minute... "Where is that bishop??!!!"
November 13:
Bp. Dan had a Visitation at St. John's, Massena. Fr. Joel Grigg is settling in nicely as the new rector.
That afternoon, he did a regional Confirmation at Trinity, Potsdam for the North Country. Enthusiasm reigned!
I had a Visitation at my old hometown - Schuylerville! It was a good visit at St. Stephen's - good Schuylerville people confirmed!
November 19/20:
On Saturday, I did a regional Confirmation at St. George's, Clifton Park. A LARGE group was confirmed. I invited Bishop Ball to confirm the Cathedral group. Everyone enjoyed that!
On Sunday, I did a Visitation & Confirmation at Trinity, Lansingburgh. To my surprise, they made me an honorary member of their parish - and even gave me a pledge card!
That afternoon, I instituted Mother Diana Freeman as the new rector of St Luke's, Catskill. Great participation by the deanery clergy and laity - the combined choir did a wonderful job of leading praise to Jesus.!
So what upcoming news can I share? Let's see...
Several parishes have new rectors coming.
St. Paul's, Albany has called Mother Marilyn Sanders. Canonically resident in Upper South Carolina, Marilyn and her husband will move to Albany in early January.
St. John's, Ogdensburg has called Father Robert Longbottom. Canonically resident in San Joaquin, Bob and his wife will move to Ogdensburg this week.
Diocesan Convention June 9-11: Please be advised that WE WILL BE DOING CONFIRMATIONS THIS YEAR RATHER THAN ORDINATIONS!!! If you have a class ready for Confirmation this Winter or Spring, bring them to Convention in June. What a great morale boost it is for Confirmands to be confirmed with two hundred classmates!! And then you can have a special reception for them back in your own parish the next week. We are looking toward the annual ordination of Deacons for Memorial Day Weekend at the Cathedral.
The Monthly Holy Hour usually held on the first Tuesday of the month at Christ the King will be cancelled this month.
In case, you hadn't noticed: Christmas is comin' soon. This year, December 25 lies on a Sunday. Please be advised that all churches in the Diocese of Albany are expected to have a service on every Sunday of the year, including December 25, 2005.
My love and very best to all of you. Pray!
Bp. Dave
