Update from Bishop Dave

Bishop Dan is having a spiritual, educational Sabbatical, interspersed with continuing to be active as the Bishop Of Albany. He sends his greetings to you.

Some announcements:

1) Raid on Meridi in Sudan. By now you have probably heard that a terrorist group calling itself The Lord's Resistance Army Rebels of Uganda attacked Bishop Justin Badi's home in Meridi Diocese, Sudan, last week. You'll remember Bishop Justin as last Convention's principal speaker. Three children were stolen. We do not know whether they were Bishop Justin's children, but they were children of Anglicans living there. Usually, stolen children are either offered back to their parents at a price, or are sold into slavery. Let us be in prayer for the Christians in Sudan. A number of us have stayed at the bishop's home there, including myself, and it is painful to think of armed maniacs overrunning that peaceful place and its people.

2) Diocesan Intercessors Mailing. Torre and Jean Bissell, our diocesan intercession leaders, are inviting all of us to pledge ourselves to daily prayer for the Church, the diocese, and the Gospel of Christ. Would you like to be added to the list as a prayer warrior? The Bissell's email a devotional prayer message almost everyday, and I personally have been edified by it as I have joined in the prayers. To become an intercessor, email them at torre.bissell@verizon.net You'll be glad you did!

3) Canon Bob Haskell reminds us that two events are coming up for those who sense a call to ordained ministry:

- Interest Meeting for adults - January 8, 3:30-4:30 p.m., at the Christ The King SLC Library.

- Young Adult Dinner (high school/college age) - January 3, 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the CTK Welcome Center.

Please email Bob, if you have not already done do, to let him know if you are coming. rhaskell2@nycap.rr.com

4) A number of people have approached me about allowing my name to go forward as a nominee for Bishop Coadjutor. I have, of course, spent a good bit of time in prayer about this, and stick by my earlier statement that I do not sense a call to serve as Bishop Coadjutor, and therefore I will not accept a nomination. I love all of you, but am sure God is not calling me to be your Diocesan. God has the person all picked out. We just need to figure out who that is.

Have a very wonderful Christmas. As we get closer to the First Day of Christmas, please read meditatively the following Nativity passages: Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 2:1-20; John 1:1-14; Galatians 4:4-7. Please go to church, and bring someone with you.
