Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As most of you know, I am planning to visit each of the eight deaneries in the Diocese, beginning in the second week of September and ending the first week of October. The schedule and format of each of the deanery visitations is listed at the end of this letter.

The purpose of the Deanery Meetings is to give the members of each deanery (clergy and laity) an opportunity to hear about and discuss the actions taken at the recently concluded 76 th General Convention of The Episcopal Church which met in Anaheim, California in July. No doubt many of you have already heard about much of what occurred at General Convention and have a variety of thoughts and opinions regarding the actions taken.

I invite you to come and share your thoughts with me and one another as we discuss General Convention and its impact or potential impact on each of our parishes, the Diocese and the larger Church. I pray that this will be an informative and beneficial time for all who attend. Shortly after the General Convention concluded, I reported on some of the more controversial aspects of General Convention. During our deanery meetings I will try to share with you some of the other business that came before us as well.

Several members of the Diocese of Albany’s Deputation to General Convention have written a report or reflection on General Convention. These may be found on the diocesan website early next week. I look forward to being with you.
