Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with sadness that I report the death of Fr. Hap Carrier who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer this morning. He was rector of St. John’s, Troy until disability retirement due to his cancer. Visiting hours will be Monday, April 5 from 4 – 8 at St. John’s Church, 146 First St, Troy with his funeral on Tuesday at St. John’s beginning at 10 AM. A reception will follow the service.
We rejoice in the election of the Rev. Mike Chapman, interim rector, St. John’s, Troy as Bishop Suffragan, Diocese of Peru. His election now goes through their consent process. Please keep Fr Mike and his wife, Linda, in your prayers. Here is the website for the Diocese of Peru: http://www.peru.anglican.org .
Since 1922, Episcopalians have been using the Good Friday Offerings to support the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East. If you church decides to continue this tradition, the treasurer should sent the check to the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society, Good Friday Offering, PO Box 12095, Newark, NJ 07101 with Good Friday Offering on the Memo line of the check.

“Take up Your Cross . . . Follow Me!” is the theme for the 142 nd Convention of the Diocese and is taken from one our readings for the weekend – Matt 16:24. Convention is two months away and it’s not too early to send in your registrations (download a hard copy or register online at http://www.albanydiocese.org/ministries/convention/index.html ). Fees for the weekend are the same as last year.
During the business meeting, we will be discussing the proposed Anglican Covenant. In preparation for the discussion and any action by Convention, a DVD was sent to all parishes (attn: rector, vicar, or church wardens as appropriate) to be used for facilitating discussion of the proposed Covenant. We have received calls for additional/individual copies. Unfortunately, we only ordered a sufficient number of copies to send one DVD to each parish. If you are interested in ordering a copy ($10 incl S&H), please send a check or money to the Diocese, attn: Tim George (tgeorge@albanydiocese.org.) We will place the order on April 16.

We had a large gathering of clergy and laity at the Chrism Mass last night at the Cathedral. It was a refreshing service. I am off to St. James’, Oneonta for tonight’s Chrism Mass with the clergy and laity of the Susquehanna and Western Mohawk Deaneries. On Wednesday morning, it’s on the road early to arrive in Tupper Lake noon time Chrism Mass with the clergy and laity of the North Country St. Thomas’ Church.
May you have a Blessed Easter,
+Bill
