Diocesan Update - April 29, 2010

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER - Thursday, May 6 th.

 

For those in the Albany area, the National Day of Prayer observance is tomorrow Thursday and begins at 10:30 in the West Capitol Park (between Capitol and Alfred E Smith State Office Building).

 IsaiahSix, a contemporary Christian Worship Band, will be leading a Concert of Prayer at 10:30 AM. Prayers will be led by Capital Region Pastors and Leaders focusing on the seven spheres of power and influence: Civil Government, Business, Education, Family, Military, Church, Media.

      At noon there will be a military color guard led by Christian Brother's Academy cadets to start a time of praying for every level of government. Albany's Mayor Gerald Jennings, County Executive Michael Breslin, and several NY State Assemblymen will be in attendance. They will share on the importance of prayer, read proclamations and resolutions and be prayed for by Capital Region pastors. The Govenor's and President’s proclamations will also be read followed by prayers for their offices.

 

Parking is at a premium downtown so the National Day of Prayer committee has arranged for parking and shuttle service from 4 churches in the area including Grace and Holy Innocents. Go to http://www.albanydayofprayer.com/parkAndRide.doc for details and times.

 

There are observances being held in the following communities: Amsterdam, Catskill, Clifton Park, Cohoes, Glenville, Johnstown, Schenectady, and Troy. For more info on these observances, go to http://www.albanydayofprayer.com/events.htm ..

 

If you live near  Hudson Falls, the National Day of Prayer observance begins at 7:00pm at Juckett Park Gazebo in Hudson Falls with live music by "Two Late" Come and pray for our churches, families, government, military and peace.

 

Regional Confirmation is this Saturday at 4:30. Confirmands and those being received will meet with the Bishop at 3:30. Parishes presenting individuals for confirmation or reception are St. George’s, Clifton Park (host), St. Luke’s, Catskill, Our Saviour, Lebanon Springs, and Grace, Waterford, If your parish is not listed, please contact Jerry Carroll or Ray Rockwell at (518) 465-4737 by noon Thursday. St. George’s is hosting a reception following the service.

 

Spring Confirmation Retreat

 

When God calls us by name, we want to know how to answer. The Diocesan Confirmation Retreat helps kids dig deeper, lets them ask important questions, and encourages them to claim their faith so they can confirm what they know about the God who loves them.

This interactive retreat will cover:

  • Saying what we believe        (Creeds)
  • Praying what we share          (Book of Common Prayer)
  • Writing what we know          (Letter to the Bishop)
  • Doing what Jesus taught       (Instructed Eucharist)

The Pre-Convention Book (PDF document) will be available for download from the Diocesan website on Thursday afternoon, May 6. It has been emailed to all clergy, mailed to the parishes for their Convention Deputies (3 copies, 1 per deputy), and handed out to priests who attended the priest retreat this past week.

 

Certificate of Election of parish diocese convention deputies are trickling in. To facilitate preparations for Convention, Archdeacon Huth would appreciate receiving them sooner vice later. Not sure if you mailed yours, here are the certificates he has received (in alphabetical order by location): Bolton Landing, Adirondack Mission, Brant Lake, Cairo, Cambridge, Canton, Colton, Essex, Glens Falls, Herkimer, Ilion, Johnstown, Kinderhook, Middleville, Morrisville, Plattsburgh, Bethesda, Saratoga Springs, Troy (St. John’s). If your parish is not listed and you have mailed it, please contact Archdeacon Huth at hhuth@verizon.net.
