Bishop's Message

Prayers For the Victims and Families of Newtown Shooting

December 21, 2012

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Please join with me this morning in holding up in our prayers all those who were tragically killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut one week ago today, and all their families and friends whose lives have been changed for ever.

Prayer for the children:

O God, whose beloved Son did take little children into his arms and bless them: Give us grace, we beseech thee, to entrust these precious little children: Avielle Richman, Noah Pozner, Jessica Rekos, Jesse Lewis, Benjamin Wheeler, Emilie Parker, Caroline Previdi, Joey Gay, Jack Pinto, James Mattioli, Olivia Engel, Grace McDonnell, Chase Kowalski, Daniel Barden, Charlotte Bacon, Ana Marquez-Greene, Dylan Hockley, Madalyn Hsu, Catherine Hubbard, and Allyson Wyatt to Thy never failing care and love, and bring us all to Thy heavenly kingdom; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Prayer for the principal and teachers:

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of these Thy servants: Dawn Hochsprung, Mary Sherlach, Lauren Rousseau, Rachel Davino, Ann Marie Murphy, and Victoria Soto, and grant them an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of Thy saints; through Jesus Christ Thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Give rest, O Christ, to all these Thy servants with Thy saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Thou only art immortal, the creator and maker of mankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and unto earth shall we return. For so Thou didst ordain when thou createdst me, saying, "Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." All we go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Give rest, O Christ, to these Thy servants with Thy saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. Amen.

Grant, O Lord, to all who are bereaved the spirit of faith and courage, that they may have strength to meet the days to come with steadfastness and patience; not sorrowing as those without hope, but in thankful remembrance of Your great goodness, and in the joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love. And this we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

In Christ's Love,

+Bill
