Mons Nubifer Sanctus

Retreat
Mons Nubifer Sanctus is offering a retreat entitled Creation and the Christian Life: Walking the Wilderness in Prayer Thursday October 5th through Sunday, October 8th. This retreat commingles contemplative prayer, day hikes in the Catskill Mountains, and reflections on Genesis 1-11 as it relates to the Christian spiritual life and our relationship with the earth and its Creator. Blessing Opportunity

Blessing of the Pets
St Andrew's Church, 10 North Main Ave, Albany will hold a Blessing of the Pets service on Saturday, October 8th at 12:30 p.m. at the Church. Along with the opportunity for blessing of your pets there will be a small petting zoo and donations will be accepted for the Albany Damien Center's PAWS program which provides pet supplies to those living with AIDS. All are welcome.

St. James' Church, 172 Ottawa St, Lake George, NY 12845 is serving up a German dinner of sauerbraten, bratwurst and sauerkraut, red cabbage, butter noodles, applesauce, beverage, and dessert on Saturday, October 7th from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (take-outs beginning at 4:30 p.m.) Adult dinners cost $13, children 5-12 dinners cost $8.00. Spaghetti Dinner
All are welcome at Trinity Church, 585 Fourth Avenue, Troy, NY 12182 for a free Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, October 25th from 5:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Dinner includes spaghetti and sauce, bread, salad, and dessert.

Special Speaker Event
On Friday, October 13th at 6:30 p.m. Christ the King Spiritual Life Center is hosting Nadia Karnatova, who will speak about her experiences with Operation Christmas Child - both on the receiving end as a child and on the giving end now. Nadia grew up in Ukraine in a large family. Although God always provided for them, they had very little. One Christmas when she was around 9 years old, Nadia and all of her siblings received a shoebox from a local church. When Nadia opened her shoebox... To hear more about God's faithfulness in Nadia's life and the special item she received in her shoebox, please come by Christ the King to hear her share the story God has written upon her life.

Cathedral of All Saints

Bible Symposium
The Bible Symposium for 2017 will be held on Saturday, October 14 at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210. The speaker this year is The Rev. Dr. Michael Cover, an Episcopal priest and Assistant Professor of Ancient Christianity and Judaism at Marquette University, and a frequent contributor to The Living Church. The title of Fr. Cover's presentation is Not as Orphans: Praying and Preaching with the Saints of Scripture. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. The presentation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. The cost for the day is $20. Coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch are included. Come and listen to a respected scholar help us understand the Scriptures!

Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham
The Evensong in honor of Our Lady of Walsingham and the 30th anniversary of the covenant between The Cathedral of All Saints and the Roman Catholic Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception in Albany will be held at 3:00 p.m. on October 15. The preacher will be The Very Rev. David LeFort, Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany and Rector of the Roman Catholic Cathedral. The Evensong will be sung by the Cathedral choir of Men and Boys. Clergy are invited to vest and process and sit in choir, wearing choir dress (cassock, surplice, tippett and hood). Please arrive by 2:30.

Acolyte Festival
Mend your parish banners, polish up your processional crosses, and clean your thuribles and get ready to fest! The Acolyte Festival is coming! The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210 will be the site of the Grand Procession - a colorful parade of all the acolytes participating - followed by a Eucharist service on Saturday, October 28th. All first-time participants will receive a medal and seasoned veterans will receive a pin. There will be lunch after the service and workshops in the afternoon - don't miss it! If you're not an acolyte, come anyway and enjoy the pageantry.

Holiday Bazaar
Calvary Church, 85 Lakehill Road, Burnt Hills, NY 12027 is hosting its 9th Annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, October 14th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The bazaar will feature over 55 handmade crafts, along with a bake sale, a Chinese auction and lunch! Grief Support Opportunity

Grief Support Group
Comfort For those Who Mourn is a 6-week Christian non-denominational grief support group for all those who are mourning the death of a loved one. The next group will meet at St. Luke’s Church, 40 McBride Rd, Mechanicville, NY 12118, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. beginning Wednesday, October 18th. Following the group, all participants are invited to stay for Eucharist at 6:00 p.m. and a potluck supper. Healing a Woman's Soul

Fundraiser
An evening to benefit Healing a Woman's Soul (HAWS), entitled Anything Chocolate... will be hosted by St. Paul's Church, 21 Hackett Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 Saturday, October 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet, silent auction, the second annual Paula award for a volunteer helping victims of domestic violence, and an "Anything Chocolate..." Contest. "Anything Chocolate..." contest entries are due no later than October 21st at 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul's. Emergency Preparedness Workshop
Worship is underway when suddenly...there's a shooter in the worship space, or a major fire or chemical spill requires your congregation to "shelter in place," or your roof collapses in a storm, requiring evacuation and an alternate plan for services long-term, or a Hurricane Harvey/Irma/Maria disaster requires the use of the worship space as a community center or triage location. Do you have a plan? On Monday, October 23rd, from 9:00 a.m. until noon, Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park St, Glens Falls, NY 12801, is hosting an educational program entitled Emergency Preparedness for Faith-Based Organizations in the Community Learning Center at the hospital. Daughters of the King Assembly
The Daughters of the King will assemble on Saturday, November 4th from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. The title is The Kingdom of Heaven - Building a Nest in God's Tree. Mtr. Jean DeVaty, Diocesan DOK Chaplain, will be the speaker and celebrant. Dcn. Barb Mitchell will give an update from the Jr. Daughters' retreat she attended in July. Addiction and the Family Workshop
On Sunday, October 8th from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Dominican Retreat Center, 1945 Union St, Niskayuna, NY 12309, the Rev. Sally Heiligman, Priest-in-Charge at Grace Church, Mohawk, is offering a workshop dealing with addiction and how it affects both addicts and their families. Families of addicts often develop behaviors that, rather than helping the addict, actually enable the addictive behavior. This workshop will look at the behaviors often associated with family members of addicts (as well as those of the addict him- or herself), how those behaviors benefit the family and what each person can do to change the behaviors that are indeed harmful to him/herself which will help move toward breaking the pattern of addiction. Retreat Opportunity

Deacons' Retreat
The Deacon's Retreat will be held at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center Friday, October 13th - Sunday, October 15th. The centerpiece of the retreat this year will be the Bible Symposium on Saturday with The Rev. Dr. Michael Cover, Assistant Professor of Ancient Christianity and Judaism at Marquette University. His presentation is entitled Not as Orphans: Praying and Preaching with the Saints of Scripture. This is an important opportunity for all the deacons in the Diocese to be in community with brother and sister deacons, to celebrate together what is going well in individual ministries, and to grapple with the challenges. All vocational deacons are expected to attend and are released from regular liturgical duties that weekend to attend the retreat. Deacons should collaborate with clergy in charge or Vestries to accommodate attendance at this retreat. The cost of the retreat is fully covered by the Diocese. Healing Service Preacher - Rev. Mark Chesnut
The Guest Preacher for the Service of Healing at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center on Tuesday, October 10th will be the Rev. Mark Chesnut, Director of the Center for Healing and Spiritual Formation. You can read his full bio here. The Healing service includes inspirational music and praise, powerful testimonies about the healing power of Jesus Christ, and phenomenal teaching and preaching. At the end of the service, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available as well as personal ministry with a prayer team. Individual Prayer Sessions are also offered by appointment for those who would like to receive more intensive prayer ministry. The service begins at 10 a.m. in the Oratory Chapel. A buffet lunch is available for purchase ($11 including tax) in the dining room of the Welcome Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Day of Quiet and Healing
On Saturday, October 7th from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. the Center for Healing and Spiritual Formation is hosting a Day of Quiet and Healing at the Oratory, focusing on the healing of families and generational healing, which deals with issues that can affect families for generations. The day will include soaking prayer, Reconciliation (confession), and a Generational Healing Eucharist. For more information, click here.

Reviving Romance Couples Conference
Take this special opporutnity to hear from a couple who have been investing in each other as well as in marriages and leaders in the church for over 40 years. Their goal is to help you see the centrality of your faith in God for a healthy marriage. Welcome Home Initiative
The Welcome Home Initiative is a veterans’ ministry that offers healing for military veterans and the spouses of military veterans who have served their country in combat. These veterans may be suffering in varying degrees from post-traumatic stress or moral injury and are in need of soul repair. The format of the program helps veterans and spouses understand the hidden impact of combat and provides a safe space for emotional healing. The Foundations class Exploring the Church’s Past will be offered at the Center for Healing and Spirituality on Mondays, beginning Monday, October 16th. The Albany Episcopalian Christmas Issue
Is there a photo of your church that shows its Christmas splendor that you would like others to see? Now you have a chance to show your stuff! The Albany Episcopalian would like to highlight a photo of one church in the Diocese, taken at Christmas time, for its upcoming December 2017 issue. Photos submitted should have a Christmas setting (garland, poinsettias, decorated tree, etc.), be in jpeg format (.jpg), and be approximately 1600 x 2400 pixels (you can find this in the properties of the file) and no less than 1200 x 1800 pixels. Due to limits on the email server, the total size for the message cannot exceed 5 MB, so emails with attachments totaling more than this will be rejected by the server. Color photos are preferred, but black and white photos will be considered. To be considered, e-mail your photos, along with the name of the photographer, to taeeditor@albanydiocese.org no later than November 1st. You may enter as many photos as you wish. The name of the photographer of the photo chosen will be noted in the same issue.

Women's Weekend
Are you a woman interested in deepening your faith - or do you know someone who is? The Albany Diocese Cursillo Secretariat is pleased to announce a Cursillo Women's weekend Friday, October 20th through Sunday, October 22nd at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. Cursillo is a lay ministry designed to help renew and deepen Christian commitment, and to help participants understand their individual callings to be Christian leaders. Leadership in Cursillo does not mean power over others, but rather influence on others; all of us need to be aware that we can exert a positive influence on those around us.
