Dining Opportunities

Spaghetti Dinner
All are welcome at Trinity Church, 585 Fourth Avenue, Troy, NY 12182 for a free Spaghetti Dinner on Wednesday, October 25th from 5:00 p.m until 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Dinner includes spaghetti and sauce, bread, salad, and dessert.

Thanksgiving Dinner
Church of the Good Shepherd, 26 Moyer St, Canajoharie, NY 13317 is hosting a dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23rd at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to come and feast! Cathedral of All Saints

Acolyte Festival
Mend your parish banners, polish up your processional crosses, and clean your thuribles and get ready to fest! The Acolyte Festival is coming! The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 S. Swan Street, Albany NY 12210 will be the site of the Grand Procession - a colorful parade of all the acolytes participating - followed by a Eucharist service on Saturday, October 28th. All first-time participants will receive a medal and seasoned veterans will receive a pin. There will be lunch after the service and workshops in the afternoon - don't miss it! If you're not an acolyte, come anyway and enjoy the pageantry. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the last workshop should finish up by 2:30 p.m. The cost for the day is $15 and includes coffee and Cider Belly Donuts in the morning and lunch. To register, click here.

Shape Note Singing
Experience the old harmonies of the Sacred Harp tunebook every Wednesday beginning November 1st from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. George's Church, 30 N Ferry St, Schenectady, NY 12305. You don't have to be able to sing or read music to enjoy the haunting folk hymns, archaic harmonies, and rousing camp-meeting songs of the Sacred Harp (1991 edition). The singing is free of charge. Concert
Join Church of the Good Shepherd, 26 Moyer St, Canajoharie, NY 13317 as they welcome Sherry Anne in concert on Saturday, November 4th at 2:00 p.m. A free-will offering will be taken at the concert. A time of refreshments and fellowship will follow the concert.

Dinner and a Show
St. George's, 30 North Ferry Street, Schenectady, New York 12305 is pleased to offer dinner and a show on Saturday, November 4th at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be turkey with all the fixin's. The show will be Words and Music by... with soprano Rosanne Hargrave. Ms. Hargrave's performance will take you on a journey through the great American Songbook with music by Gershwin, Porter, and many others. She will be accompanied by Michael Clement at the piano. Learning Opportunity

Safeguarding God's Children The Safeguarding God's Children program, required for any church employees or volunteers that have any interaction at all with children, will be offered at St. James' Church, 172 Ottawa St, Lake George, NY 12845 on Saturday November 11th from 9:00 a.m. until lunch. Certificates are only good for a period of three years, so if you haven't been to the training in the last three years, this is a perfect opportunity to renew your certificate. Volunteer Opportunity

St. Peter's Overflow Shelter
Could you consider giving up one evening this winter to offer the gift of hospitality and show another the love and mercy of God? The St. Peter's Overflow Homeless Shelter, 107 State Street Albany, NY, will open for its 9th season on December 1st to augment the ministry of the Capital City Rescue Mission to Albany's homeless. This year, up to 20 women can be housed each evening through March 18th. St. Peter's is currently receiving donations of food items and financial support. Food items needed include coffee, tea, sugar, popcorn and snacks, cereal (hot and cold), peanut butter, bread, fresh fruit, milk and juice along with fresh baked items. These can be dropped off at the church office any weekday, or brought to the church on Sundays. Volunteers (women volunteers only) are also being scheduled to offer hospitality during the evening hours, 8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. The overflow shelter is on the 2nd floor of the Guild House, next to the church. Orientation for new (or returning) volunteers will be held Tuesday, November 7th, at 7:00 p.m., or Saturday, November 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 107 State St., Albany NY 12207. Office Manager/Rector's Assistant
St. Stephen's Church, 16 Elsmere Ave., Delmar, NY 12054 is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Office Manager and Rector's assistant. The ideal candidate must be well-organized and possess proficiency with computers, the internet, and standard office equipment. The Office Manager is responsible for production of parish communication materials including bulletins, newsletters, schedules, etc. S/he would also assist the Rector in keeping the records and files of the church, keeping the Church calendar up-to-date including building usage, and would provide office coverage. After School Program Aide
Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, 575 Burton Rd., Greenwich, NY 12834 is seeking a part-time aide for the After School Program. The hours are 2:30 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. a couple days a week. Got an Item for the Update?
Is there an event at your parish that you want the rest of the Diocese to know about? Do you want to advertise an opening at the church to the Diocese? Not sure how to go about making either of those things happen? Put it in the Diocese Update! The Update publishes any event that doesn't happen during the "regular" Sunday service time (8:00 a.m. until noon) or during the Diocesan Convention and that happens at a parish or is sponsored by a parish, and doesn't conflict with the doctrine and teaching of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany. We'll also publish job opportunities at any parish or ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany. Other items will be published at the discretion of the editorial staff. The editorial staff always reserves the right to not publish a submission. Submissions should be of interest and/or available to the entire Diocese or a Deanery. Sound like what you need? Healing Center at CtK

Healing Service Preacher - Rev. Jacob Evans
The Guest Preacher for the Service of Healing at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center on Tuesday, October 31st will be the Rev. Jacob Evans, Priest-in-Charge at St. Matthew's, Latham. You can read his full bio here. The Healing service includes inspirational music and praise, powerful testimonies about the healing power of Jesus Christ, and phenomenal teaching and preaching. At the end of the service, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is available as well as personal ministry with a prayer team. Individual Prayer Sessions are also offered by appointment for those who would like to receive more intensive prayer ministry. The service begins at 10 a.m. in the Oratory Chapel. A buffet lunch is available for purchase ($11 including tax) in the dining room of the Welcome Center beginning at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.

Reviving Romance Couples Conference
Take this special opporutnity to hear from a couple who have been investing in each other as well as in marriages and leaders in the church for over 40 years. Their goal is to help you see the centrality of your faith in God for a healthy marriage. The conference begins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10th and ends at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11th at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. Cost is $205/couple. Welcome Home Initiative
The Welcome Home Initiative is a veterans’ ministry that offers healing for military veterans and the spouses of military veterans who have served their country in combat. These veterans may be suffering in varying degrees from post-traumatic stress or moral injury and are in need of soul repair. The format of the program helps veterans and spouses understand the hidden impact of combat and provides a safe space for emotional healing. Photo Opportunity

The Albany Episcopalian Christmas Issue
Is there a photo of your church that shows its Christmas splendor that you would like others to see? Now you have a chance to show your stuff! The Albany Episcopalian would like to highlight a photo of one church in the Diocese, taken at Christmas time, for its upcoming December 2017 issue. Photos submitted should have a Christmas setting (garland, poinsettias, decorated tree, etc.), be in jpeg format (.jpg), and be approximately 1600 x 2400 pixels (you can find this in the properties of the file) and no less than 1200 x 1800 pixels. Due to limits on the email server, the total size for the message cannot exceed 5 MB, so emails with attachments totaling more than this will be rejected by the server. Color photos are preferred, but black and white photos will be considered. To be considered, e-mail your photos, along with the name of the photographer, to taeeditor@albanydiocese.org no later than November 1st. You may enter as many photos as you wish. The name of the photographer of the photo chosen will be noted in the same issue.

Advent/Christmas Opportunity

The first Sunday in Advent is a mere 6 Sundays away! So now's the time to send in your Lessons and Carols (or other Advent special worship) for inclusion in the Diocesan Update! Only services held outside of the "regular" Sunday worship time (8 a.m. until noon) will be published. And if you submit the date, time, place, and any other information (reception following, etc) before November 1st, it will be included in the Christmas issue of The Albany Epsicopalian. Daughters of the King Assembly
The Daughters of the King will assemble on Saturday, November 4th from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Christ the King Spiritual Life Center. The title is The Kingdom of Heaven - Building a Nest in God's Tree. Mtr. Jean DeVaty, Diocesan DOK Chaplain, will be the speaker and celebrant. Dcn. Barb Mitchell will give an update from the Jr. Daughters' retreat she attended in July. The Assembly will collect items for, and the Eucharist offering will be designated for, the Albany Refugee Resettlement Ministry. Cost for the day is $25 which includes lunch. Fall Reunion/Diocesan Ultreya

The Fall Reunion/Diocesan Ultreya has been scheduled for November 11th at The Church of the Messiah, 296 Glen St # 1, Glens Falls, NY 12801. The day begins at 9:00 a.m. with fellowship, coffee and music. Liturgy begins at 10 a.m. with Bishop Love and will be followed by the day's program. The day finishes with the Eucharist, which begins at 1:00 p.m. Remember to bring your lunch. This is a great way to introduce family and friends to Cursillo! A Day of Recovery Celebration

On Saturday, November 18th there will be a Day of Recovery Celebration in Mechanicville. There will be pizza, a screening of the film Reversing the Stigma and a panel discussion at the Scerbo Center, 52 Williams Street, Mechanicville, NY 12118. Pizza will be served at 12:30 p.m. and the film will begin at 1:00 p.m. The day will continue with a 12-step Eucharist at St. Luke's on the Hill, 40 McBride Rd, Mechanicville, NY 12118 at 4:00 p.m. The service will be followed by a pot-luck dinner at 5:00 p.m. and three guests speakers at 6:00 p.m. This is a free event and anyone can attend all or part of it as they wish.
