Transitional Deacons

Scott A. Garno
Scott A. Garno is a May, 2006, graduate of Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, where he received his M.Div. degree. Scott is a life-long member of St. John's, Ogdensburg, and married to Sarah (Hinrichs), a school librarian who received her M.L.I.S. degree from the University of Pittsburgh in April, 2005. Scott and Sarah happily welcomed their son Samuel into the family on March 14th. The family currently resides in Ambridge, but will soon be moving to Unadilla, NY, where Scott has been called as the next rector of St. Matthew's.

David William Haig
David Haig has been married to wife, Cathy for 24 years and they have three children, Ryan (22), Jesse (19), and Shelly (10). David received his B.A. in Theatre from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 1982. After being in business, founding and directing a Theater Company on Cape Cod, as well as being a vowed member of the Community of Jesus in Orleans Massachusetts, David felt called to the priesthood. He completed his MDIV last year and looks forward to ordination as a transitional deacon in the Diocese of Albany. "God willing I will serve as a deacon and in the future a priest at the Community of Jesus."

Sheila E. McCarthy
Sheila is a member of Grace Episcopal Church-Canton, and a Mental Health Services Coordinator for St. Lawrence NYSARC. A former High School English teacher, she holds a Masters Degree in Education and is currently completing a Masters in Pastoral Theology from St. Joseph's College of Maine. Sheila and her husband, Richard "Crow" Flanagan, live in Potsdam. Upon her ordination Sheila will be Assistant Vicar of St. Paul's, Waddington where she will serve under The Rev. Craig Hacker.

Virginia (Ginny) L. Ogden
A member of St. Stephen's Church-Delmar, NY since 1991, Ginny has served this community of faith in many ministries over the years. Her favorites include singing, cooking and preaching. She is wife of 25 years of Ken Ogden and mother to Andrea (24) and Alicia (20). In her 'former' life she taught mathematics in four area high schools over the course of her career. Ginny has traded her math books for the Bible, hoping she will encounter less reluctance from her pupils! She will continue to minister at St. Stephen's after her ordination to the transitional diaconate.

Vocational Deacons

Gregory Bruce Bailey
A member of Trinity Church, Gouverneur, Greg and wife of 32 years, Trudy, are parents of two children, Valerie 30, and Jay 27, and a granddaughter, Mychal, 8. After graduating from Gouverneur Central Schools in 1970, Greg served in the US Navy 6 years, then became a Lab Technician with Gouverneur Talc Company 17 years. Active in nursing home ministry, Greg began the Greater Gouverneur Ecumenical Council. A lung cancer survivor, he is a member/spokesman for the American Cancer Society, TPACC coalition, and an ALCASE phone buddy. After ordination, Greg will be assigned to Trinity, Gouverneur as Vocational Deacon.

Thomas Howard Bombard
Thom is a lifelong Episcopalian, baptized, confirmed and married at Messiah, Glens Falls. Married almost thirty five years to wife Debbie, they have five children and two grandchildren, with a third due in July. He attended Adirondack Community College, and is the senior lab technician at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Glens Falls. Always active in his parish serving in many positions, he has also been involved in Cursillo and Happening, and has coached many little league teams. After ordination, Thom will be assigned to Church of the Messiah-Glens Falls as Vocational Deacon.

Richard Paul Erickson
A life long Episcopalian, Richard is a 1996 graduate of Maria College in Albany, having earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science with a major in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. He is employed as an occupational therapy assistant at the Firemen's Home in Hudson, New York. Richard and wife Theresa have been parishioners of the Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, New York since June 2005. After ordination, Richard will be assigned as a Vocational Deacon at the Cathedral of All Saints.

Alan Reed Hart
Allan is married to postulant Mary Carol Hart, and has three daughters and one step-son. He was educated in the Scotia-Glenville school system and received his Master's degree in English from University at Albany in 1996. He was raised up as a Vocational Deacon by his home parish, St. Andrew's-Scotia, and did his intern work this past year at Christ Church-Schenectady. After ordination, Alan will remain at Christ Church-Schenectady.

Mary Carol Hart
Mary Carol is a native of Scotia and a cradle Episcopalian who served her internship at Calvary Church-Burnt Hills. A graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School (Class of '74) and Spencer Business School, she is employed with Schenectady County Department of Social Services. Wife of postulant Alan Hart, she has a son and three step-daughters. After ordination, Mary Carol will be assigned to her home parish of St. Andrew's-Scotia.

Barbara C. Letteney
A 1955 graduate from LaSalle Jr. College, Barbara always felt a strong connection with God. Her marriage to the Rev'd Ward H. Letteney ended upon his death in 2000. Her ministries have taken her to Christ Church-Cooperstown, St.Thomas-Tupper Lake, Camelot/St. Francis Academy-Lake Placid, St. Paul's-Sydney, St. Matthews-Unadilla and Calvary Church-Homer, NY. In October 2005, Barbara moved to CTK SLC as Sacristan for 3 chapels. She serves the Center as Volunteer Coordinator and will soon be doing Soaking Prayer once a month at the Healing Center. Barbara is proud of her "20 children" - 4 daughters, 1 son, their spouses, grandchildren and a great grand child. After ordination, she will begin her deaconate work at CTK SLC.

Mark Daniel McDarby
Mark has been a member of St. Mark's-Philmont since 1998. He has been married to Catherine for 15 years and together, they have two sons, James 13 and Thomas 12. After ordination, Mark will be Deacon - Vicar of St. Mark's-Philmont.

Joseph Gary Norman
Gary lives in Morris and attends Zion Church where he will be assigned after ordination as a Vocational Deacon. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he is proprietor of a small antiquarian bookstore in Morris. He and his wife of 19 years, Stacia, have two children: Galina and Roman (both 13). Gary is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the College of William and Mary with degrees in anthropology and archaeology.

Sandra L. Tatem
Sandra's home parish is St. Andrew's Albany; having served as Warden, Rector Search Committee, Altar Guild, LEM & LEV, and Initiator of Daughters of the King. Diocesan involvement has been 8 years as Trustee, current member of Audit Committee and Capital Campaign Committee for the CTK SLC, parish consultant in Rector Searches and Stewardship programs, and 2 terms on Great Chapter of the Cathedral. She has been co-presenter on "Church Wardens and Vestry" at two Diocesan Conventions and completed 4 years of Disciple. Married to William, they have three children and two grandchildren. After ordination, she will be assigned as Vocational Deacon at St. John's, Troy.

William A. Tatem
Bill is part-time Parish Administrator in his home parish, St. Andrew's, Albany. He has served as Warden, Vestryperson, member of the Altar Guild, Finance, Stewardship and Centennial Campaign Committees. He, with his Rector, initiated the LEV program. He also served as Lector, Chalice Bearer, and Acolyte. On the diocesan level, Bill served as consultant for Rector Searches and Stewardship campaigns, a co-presenter of a workshop for Wardens and Vestries at Convention. He has also completed the 4 year Disciple course and Cursillo. Married to Sandra; they have three children and two grandchildren. Bill's assignment is Vocational Deacon at Trinity Church, Watervliet.

Christine R. Wickman
Christine grew up in the south of England as an active member of the Church of England. She worked 7 years for the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria and 11 years for IBM UK Laboratories, Winchester, UK as an Administrator and Planner. In 1978 IBM assigned Christine to Kingston, NY where she met and married husband, Tom. They reside in Glenmont and attend St. Peter's, Albany. Christine has one daughter, four step-daughters and three granddaughters. Christine has led several Alpha courses, is on the Board of The Counseling Service and established Chapters of the Daughters of the King at St. Peter's, Albany and Trinity, Watervliet. She enjoys gardening and golf. After ordination, she will be Vocational Deacon at St. Peter's-Albany.
